How to Make Sure Your Website is Optimised for AI Queries (Google & ChatGPT)
AI is no longer something to “keep an eye on for the future.” It’s already here — and it’s changing the way people search online faster than most businesses realise.
A couple of years ago you only had to worry about showing up in Google’s organic results.
Today, you need to think about whether Google’s AI Overviews or platforms like ChatGPT will even mention you at all.
So, let's get into how to make sure your website is optimised for AI Queries (Google & ChatGPT).
Here’s what’s happening, why it matters, and what to do about it.
The Shift: AI in Search
Google’s AI Overviews are already showing up in nearly 1 in 5 searches. Back in January 2025, it was 1 in 15. That’s a huge jump in just a few months.
AI search tools now account for roughly 8% of all web traffic. That number has doubled in a year.
ChatGPT’s query volume is already about 3.5% of Google’s total search volume. In real terms, that’s billions of questions being asked here instead of typed into the search bar.
So, if your content isn’t optimised for AI, you’re likely being skipped over.
Think about what people ask AI? Is that incorporated into your website?

What This Means for Your Website
Traditional SEO still matters, but on its own it’s no longer enough. You now need to optimise for how AI reads and summarises content too. This approach is often called Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO).
Think of it as SEO’s younger sibling: it’s all about structuring your content so AI systems can pull clean, trustworthy answers directly from your site.
That looks like:
✔ Structuring your content clearly (FAQs, headings, lists)
✔ Writing in plain, conversational language that directly answers questions
✔ Adding schema markup (Q&A, FAQ, HowTo) so search engines know exactly what you mean
✔ Positioning yourself as a trusted, authoritative source so your name is the one AI pulls into its answer

Why This Matters
Whether someone finds you through a traditional Google search result or gets an AI-generated answer in ChatGPT, the goal is the same: you want your brand to be part of that conversation.
AI search isn’t a trend that will fizzle out. It’s growing at a ridiculous pace, and it’s reshaping how people discover businesses.
If you’re not tailoring your content for it, you risk being invisible while competitors ride the wave.
